What was the brief?

Although the University of Hertfordshire boasted some great undergraduate bioscience courses, it had no professional video content to show off its offering.

That’s why they approached us looking to create a film that gave a general overview of each course; including BSc Biochemistry, BSc Biological science, BSc Biomedical Science, BSc Healthcare Science, BSc Molecular Biology, BSc Pharmacology.

The film needed to increase both awareness of the degrees and the number of applications, all while ensuring that the brand messaging (Friendly, Ambitious, Collegiate, Enterprising and Student-focussed) was communicated in a personable and engaging fashion.

How did we approach the brief?

Bioscience is as exciting, multifaceted and colourful as life itself, and that’s because it is the study of all the scientific aspects of life.

We wanted to place this fact at the heart of our approach, showing the energy and opportunity of the entirety of Bioscience.

We achieved this by giving each of the key themes that make up the Hertfordshire experience their own colour palette; with the choices on offer being represented by red imagery, the facilities by blue, work experience purple, and employability green

This resulted in a film that is visual, bright, engaging and informative, using colour to break up the facts and allowing the viewer to notice a visual signifier of the themes and any change in theme before the accompanying voice over or graphics points it out.

This colourful exploration of life at the university and the subjects on offer means that viewers can engage with it in a meaningful way, painting the university in a visually appealing light.

Delivery

The film has been used across several of the university’s platforms, including YouTube and the course pages on the website. It will also be used at open and applicant days, during academic presentations, and in email communications.

The film has been well received by the university, with Marketing & Recruitment Coordinator, Rebecca Hudson stating:

“I thoroughly enjoyed working with Maia Films on the Bioscience video. The communication and contact from the team there was superb from the onset which I found very useful when it came down to shooting the video. The end product was exactly what we asked for and everyone in the department was very pleased with it.”
