What was the brief?

Historic England is a public body that helps people care for, enjoy and celebrate England’s spectacular historic environment.

Having worked tirelessly on the regeneration of Shrewsbury Flaxmill Maltings, Historic England approached us looking to produce a film that would tell the story of this significant site. It needed to raise awareness around the project and encourage people to give their support to preserve this invaluable part of England’s social and industrial history.

The film had to tell the story of the people who worked in the mill and highlight the work Historic England have done and are continuing to do, to preserve and regenerate the site.

How did we approach the brief?

With such an incredible, historic location full of rich, social and industrial stories waiting to be told, we were excited to capture the regeneration of this extraordinary place.

We wanted to tell the story of the many of lives of the Flaxmill Maltings, from its ground-breaking design featuring the first use of an iron frame, often referred to as the “grand-parent of the skyscraper”, to its use as a temporary barracks during the Second World War.

So many lives were impacted and shaped by the Flaxmill, and we felt it was essential to show its significance on both a local and international scale.

Delivery

After shooting in and around the site, as well as capturing key interviews with those involved in the regeneration project, we produced a film that truly brought to life the importance of Shrewsbury Flaxmill Maltings and its social and historical impact.
