What was the brief?

Imperial College London approached us wanting to create a film that would instil a deep sense of pride in its graduating classes and encourage them to maintain a relationship with the university into the future. As a regular client of ours, we were excited to be a part of this alumni showcase film.

The brief was simple, create a poetic and inspiring film that was deeply connected to the Imperial experience. The film had to be completed in a 3-month time frame to coincide with the first graduation ceremonies of 2019.

How did we approach the brief?

Alumni from Imperial have changed the world through innovation, invention and discovery. We knew we needed to come up with a concept that would resonate with this particular audience, it had to feel authentic – not just like a piece of marketing but something that truly captured what is unique about the Imperial experience – something that rang true for these graduates.

With this in mind, our concept “It Started with a Question” was based around inquiry; Imperial students are curious, they challenge convention and ask questions that change the world.

The film captures the essence of Imperial through the questions asked there, based around a poetic narrative, read line-by-line by existing students and
significant Imperial Alumni in a variety of locations around the campus. The poem reflects the journey every Imperial student goes on from the first question they ask “Should I apply?”, to the questions they ask throughout their study, to the questions they will ask after they leave, questions that have the power to change the world.

On top of this film, we also included four alumni in the film who were filmed for a separate series of profile films at the same time.

The goal of this film was never to rack up endless views but to emotionally connect with existing and future Imperial Alumni and instil a sense of pride in the alumni community.
